Carey Olsen's fintech expertise recognised in new Chambers rankings

Carey Olsen's global fintech practice has been recognised for its multi-disciplinary fintech offering in the 2022 edition of Chambers FinTech, a leading international legal directory for law firms and their lawyers.

The firm, which has been at the forefront of offshore regulatory and commercial advice in the fintech space for several years, was noted for its cross-jurisdictional fintech work in the areas of  regulatory and licensing, payments, data protection matters, M&A, investment mandates and intellectual property.

Jersey corporate partner Chris Griffin is also ranked individually and recognised for his crypto practice and his advice in relation to token offerings, crypto funds and exchanges. Sources noted that he was 'very communicative, very responsive and very quick to get back to you' as well as 'very knowledgeable and super user-friendly'.

Chris said: "It is a fantastic endorsement for the firm to be recognised in such a positive way by Chambers & Partners for our fintech offering. The fintech space is an incredibly fast moving and evolving sector and we take great pride in the fact that as a group, and across all our jurisdictions, Carey Olsen is able to offer a high level of client service in all areas of financial technology, legal and finance sector innovation."

Carey Olsen's global fintech practice sees lawyers advise on Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Guernsey and Jersey law from across its network of international offices. In the past year, it has supported clients on a range of projects and matters, including advising:

  • Fintech startup Clara on a Series B financing round of US$70 million that made the Mexican firm the fastest company to reach unicorn status in Latin America;
  • Blockchain security firm CertiK on its US$80 million Series B funding round – the largest level of fundraising ever secured by a company in the blockchain security space;
  • Singapore investment manager Fintonia Group on the launch of its bitcoin-focused fund, Fintonia Bitcoin Physical Fund (Jersey) Limited;
  • Radix, the layer 1 decentralised finance protocol for digital assets, on the launch of its public network mainnet Olympia; and
  • Kavak, the online used vehicle platform, on a series of financing rounds which saw the company become Mexico's first ever unicorn.

The firm's recognition in Chambers Fintech follows the publication of the 2022 edition of Chambers UK, which saw Carey Olsen lead all offshore firms with eight Band One rankings – two more than its nearest competitor.
