Carey Olsen adds to its Hong Kong dispute resolution and insolvency team

Offshore law firm Carey Olsen has further strengthened its dispute resolution and insolvency practice in Hong Kong with the appointment of commercial litigator Dhanshuklal Vekaria.

Dhanshuklal joins Carey Olsen from another leading offshore firm, having qualified and worked in the UK with Pinsent Masons before moving to the Cayman Islands in 2016 where he practised Cayman Islands law. Since January 2018, he has also been admitted as a solicitor of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (BVI).

Dhanshuklal has a broad range of offshore and general commercial litigation experience, most recently advising and acting in relation to the liquidation and winding up of a number of offshore private corporates, trust and fund structures, as well as handling disputes in relation to private client trusts, fair valuation disputes, injunction and freezing orders and corporate restructuring disputes.

Michael Makridakis, head of Carey Olsen's dispute resolution and insolvency practice in Hong Kong, said: "The appointment of Dhanshuklal underlines Carey Olsen's commitment to enhancing its Hong Kong offering. The commercial litigation and insolvency law knowledge and experience that Dhanshuklal brings with him will be a valuable addition to the team and our growing client base."

The Carey Olsen Hong Kong office opened in 2016 as part of the law firm's continued expansion of its network in Asia, which also includes a Singapore office. The Hong Kong office focuses on the full spectrum of contentious, semi-contentious and offshore advisory work. This includes domestic and international restructuring and insolvency, corporate and commercial disputes, banking and financial services litigation, trusts litigation as well as fraud, asset tracing and regulatory disputes.

The appointment of Dhanshuklal follows the arrival of Chinese and common law qualified lawyer Yang Yang, who joined to the Hong Kong office as an associate in December 2017.
