Carey Olsen Hong Kong launches photography competition to celebrate diversity and inclusion in the workplace
The Hong Kong office of leading offshore law firm Carey Olsen is calling for entries to the inaugural edition of the Carey Olsen Photography Awards, which launched on 30 December 2019.
The Awards are intended to celebrate diversity and inclusion in the workplace and to showcase the work of Hong Kong based photographers. The theme is ‘Portrait of a Colleague’. Entrants are invited to photograph a colleague or peer and submit the image along with a 200-word caption that describes its significance.
Carey Olsen partner James Webb said: "We are committed to diversity and inclusion. Our Hong Kong office is growing quickly and we are moving into new office space in January 2020. We wanted to mark this milestone by developing an initiative that champions diversity and inclusion in an inspiring and creative way. As a keen amateur photographer, a photography competition struck me as an exciting platform to do this in a meaningful way. We are hoping to bring together a diverse group of both photographers and their subjects and help share their stories.
"We are lucky to have been able to gather a prestigious panel of judges from Hong Kong's rich photography scene including: documentary photographer Paul Cox and portrait photographer and teacher Kenneth Lim".
The competition is open to all Hong Kong-based photographers and closes for entries at 23:59pm on the 1 April 2020 (*NEW DATE*). The winning photographs will be announced at a private event (date TBD) and exhibited at the firm's offices in Jardine House.
Carey Olsen opened in Hong Kong in 2016 and is committed to championing diversity and inclusion across the group. It is one of the supporting firms of HKGALA, an organization dedicated to promoting LGBT+ diversity and inclusion in the legal profession.
Managing Partner Michael Padarin said: "2019 was an exciting year for us with the launch of our corporate and finance practice and the addition of on-the-ground Bermuda law capabilities. Our new offices are a key step forward in supporting the firm's long term vision in Asia and will be a fantastic setting for the exhibition."
