Continued expansion of Carey Olsen's Hong Kong SAR office with hire of new finance and corporate partner

Carey Olsen has appointed James Webb as a finance and corporate partner in its fast-growing Hong Kong SAR office.

James, who specialises in Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands (BVI) law, advises on a wide range of debt transactions, including acquisition finance, leveraged finance, project finance, real estate finance, fund finance, margin lending, structured finance, bond issuances, general lending, distressed debt, security enforcements, work-outs and debt restructurings.

In addition, he acts on corporate transactions, including on all downstream private equity deals, investments, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and shareholder arrangements and corporate restructurings.

Prior to joining Carey Olsen, James was a partner in the Hong Kong office of another leading offshore law firm, where he worked on many of the largest regional transactions. James is a genuine offshore expert having previously lived and worked in both the Cayman Islands and BVI for nearly five years. Before moving offshore, James started his legal career with Allen & Overy, and spent nearly a decade working in its London and Singapore offices.

Carey Olsen's Hong Kong office now boasts a strong full-service offering, with James joining shortly after the arrival of corporate partner Michael Padarin, who had also previously worked at the same offshore firm as James in Hong Kong and the Cayman Islands.

Carey Olsen also has the added advantage of being able to practise Bermuda law directly from its Hong Kong office, with counsel Henry Tucker and senior associate Kyle Masters having recently relocated from Bermuda.

Commenting on his appointment, James said: "I am delighted to join Carey Olsen and to help grow its brand and the finance and corporate practice in Hong Kong. The firm has a reputation for commitment to excellence and there are exciting plans for us to expand our capabilities in Hong Kong and the region in the near future."

Carey Olsen provides advice in relation to the laws of Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Guernsey and Jersey from its Singapore and Hong Kong offices.
