Entries open for Carey Olsen Inter-Island Yacht Race
Entries are now open for the 2018 Carey Olsen Inter-Island Yacht Race on Saturday 9 June.
The biggest annual Channel Island sailing event will this year begin in Guernsey and finish in Jersey. As well as participants from the Channel Islands, organisers are expecting to welcome sailors from the UK and France. Despite the weather and relocation of the start line, last year's race attracted 75 entries, ranging from fast sports boats, such as JPKs, Pogos and J122s to cruisers, such as Westerly Centaurs and Contessa 26s.
The main fleet will set sail from St Peter Port at 9.30am, while the Fast Cats will depart at 10am.
"The Inter-Island Yacht Race has been an integral part of the Channel slands sailing fraternity's calendars for more than 50 years and the 2018 event will be no different," said Clive Le Tissier, Commodore of the Guernsey Yacht Club.
"Last year's race proved to be very technical due to the fluctuating light force two-to-three 'shifty' winds, but it was only two years ago when we saw the speed record smashed and the winning crew finish in just over one hour and 45 minutes. Whatever the weather serves up for us this year I'm sure we'll see some great sailing once again."
Jersey-registered Abracadabra, skippered by Rhys Perkins, won last year's race in just under three and a half hours. Winning the race was particularly poignant for Perkins as with him were his three children – Henry, Charles and Mary as well as Nick O’Hare, Glyn Mitchell and Katie Bennett-Jones.
It is the ninth year as event sponsor for offshore law firm Carey Olsen who follow the race itself by hosting a gala dinner and awards evening for all crew members.
Entry forms, which can be found online, should be submitted by Saturday 2 June 2018. The entry cost is £30. Entry forms and full race instructions are available from:
