Five new lawyers in the Cayman Islands

We have expanded our corporate and litigation teams in the Cayman Islands with the appointment of four new associates and the former head of Maples and Calder's global corporate practice, Henry Harford, who has joined the firm as a consultant.

Mr Harford retired from Maples and Calder in 2009 having led the firm's corporate department for the preceding 10 years and served variously on its management committee and the boards of its subsidiaries and affiliates around the world. Since then, he has been engaged in a range of private investment projects, start-ups and philanthropic endeavours as well as acting as director of, and consultant to, a number of funds and investment vehicles.

The four new associates Robert Coombes, Peter Sherwood, Denis Olarou and Thomas Marriott have all recently been admitted as attorneys-at-law of the Grand Court of the Cayman Islands and are each solicitors of the Supreme Court of England and Wales.

Mr Coombes specialises in corporate practice, including mergers and acquisitions, capital markets and general advisory work. Prior to joining Carey Olsen he was an associate at Slaughter and May and during his tenure he was seconded to a number of clients in Europe as well as to Simpson Thacher & Barlett LLP in New York.

Mr Sherwood advises on all aspects of insolvency litigation, general banking and commercial litigation along with non-contentious insolvency and restructurings. He joined Carey Olsen from Herbert Smith Freehills LLP in the UK where he was a senior associate. Prior to that he was in the insolvency group at Ashurst's Sydney office and at Dentons LLP in the UK .

Mr Olarou is experienced in a range of complex, multijurisdictional, high-value disputes, including corporate fraud, shareholder conflicts and professional negligence acting for and against corporates, high net worth individuals and government entities. Prior to joining Carey Olsen, Denis was an associate in the Global Disputes Practice of Jones Day in London.

Mr Marriott advises on all aspects of corporate, investment funds and commercial law, including private equity, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions and the establishment and marketing of private investment funds. Thomas was formerly with Ropes & Gray, Reed Smith, and Speechly Bircham, each in London.

Cayman Islands managing partner, Jarrod Farley, said: "These five individuals join us at an exciting time for the Cayman office, which now has a team of 18 fee earners, as well as for the wider firm."

"We continue to expand our international network and recently launched our Singapore office, giving our clients in Asia direct access to our services in their own time zone."
