Offshore law firm advises on acquisition of landmark Jersey hotel

Carey Olsen’s property and corporate teams have recently advised Handpicked Hotels in connection with its acquisition of Jersey’s landmark, five-star hotel, Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa.

The transaction, which took place at the beginning of September, brings Handpicked Hotels’ award winning country house hotel portfolio to 21 properties including three in the Channel Islands. Handpicked Hotels also own L’Horizon Hotel & Spa at St Brelade’s Bay and St Pierre Park & Golf Resort in Guernsey.

Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa, overlooking St Aubin’s Bay, was purchased from RBS Real Estate Asset Management (RBS). Carey Olsen advised Handpicked Hotels on all stages of the negotiations from auction to acquisition, including all necessary due diligence for the deal.

Carey Olsen partner Christopher Philpott worked on all property aspects of the acquisition and partner Guy Coltman worked on the corporate legal aspects.

Mr Philpott said: “This is a strategic expansion for Handpicked Hotels, which reinforces its position in the Channel Islands and its confidence in the tourism industry.”
