Alexander Collis

Alex is a partner in the corporate and finance team of Carey Olsen in Bermuda. He advises international clients on complex corporate, finance, insurance and regulatory matters, with particular experience in cross-border transactions involving Bermuda companies and regulated businesses.

Alex has extensive experience across Bermuda's insurance market, including the life and annuity, property and casualty, captive insurance and insurance-linked securities sectors. He advises insurers, reinsurers, insurance groups, investors, sponsors and other market participants on complex transactions, including formations and licensing, acquisitions, restructurings and capital transactions, as well as corporate governance and regulatory matters. He regularly assists clients with regulatory applications, approvals and other engagements with the Bermuda Monetary Authority..

Alex also advises on mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganisations, debt and equity financings and capital markets transactions. Having practised in both London and Bermuda, he has broad experience in managing complex, cross-border transactions involving multiple parties, advisers and regulatory considerations.

He is also a member of the firm's shareholder activism and takeover defence team, which advises both shareholders and companies on activist campaigns and shareholder disputes.

In addition, Alex advises on Bermuda's corporate income tax regime and economic substance requirements, helping clients navigate the interaction between Bermuda law, regulatory obligations and wider cross-border structures.

Alex is recognised by Chambers and Partners as an Up and Coming lawyer for Insurance in Bermuda. Chambers describes him as "extremely knowledgeable, commercial and responsive". He is also ranked by The Legal 500 as a Next Generation Partner.

Before joining Carey Olsen in Bermuda, Alex was a senior associate in the London office of Watson Farley & Williams, where he worked in the project finance and real estate finance teams.

Alex holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) from the University of Toronto, a Master of Arts in Law from the University of Bristol and a Master of Business Administration with distinction from Imperial College London.

He was admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales in 2013, called to the Bermuda Bar in 2018 and became a partner in 2025.
