We have an exciting opportunity for a Business Development Senior Manager to join Carey Olsen. In this role, you will drive and support the firm’s ambitious growth plans across Bermuda, BVI and Cayman focussing on key geographic markets, practice areas and sectors in North and South America. You will design, develop and implement business development strategies and plans that generate new business and / or deepen existing client relationships – aligning with and building on the firm's Americas business strategy.
In this role you will focus on supporting Carey Olsen's businesses in Bermuda, Cayman and BVI – initial focus on investment funds, corporate / M&A, FinTech and banking and finance in the Americas markets.
The successful candidate can be based in either our Bermuda or Cayman office.
Principal duties will include:
- Act as a trusted commercial adviser to partners, bringing market insight, pipeline intelligence and structured BD execution to ensure strategy translates into measurable outcomes
- Design, implement, and monitor comprehensive business development plans for Carey Olsen's practice groups in Bermuda, BVI and Cayman – with an initial focus on investment funds, corporate / M&A, banking & finance and FinTech
- Collaborate with partners and senior lawyers to translate practice-area goals and plans into actionable, revenue-generating and / or relationship development initiatives
- Research, develop and execute MI and data-driven campaigns and targeting to identify new business opportunities and revenue streams and win new business / expand market share in the key cities, sectors and practice in the Americas
- Work to strengthen institutional client relationships, support the firm's key intermediary programmes, and facilitate cross-selling opportunities across practice groups and jurisdictions
- Conduct targeted research into competitor positioning, market trends and regulatory developments to identify new business opportunities across sectors, geographic markets and work types
- Coordinate with the global BD team and/or partners in other offices to ensure a joined-up approach to multi-jurisdictional opportunities
- Provide rapid support for day-to-day requests and lead compelling pitches, RFP responses and client presentations — crafting persuasive proposals that win work and demonstrate the team’s strengths
- Develop thought leadership and marketing campaigns that raise the profile of our US work across platforms, including social media, in partnership with the firm’s Marketing and Communications teams
- Help identify high-value industry events, partnering with the Marketing team to plan the execution and ensure maximum ROI of given events

Experience and Professional Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 years' experience in a business development role in an international law firm. Understanding of the offshore legal market helpful but not essential
- Demonstrable and continued progression during minimum of 10 years' experience up to Manager / Senior Manager level
- Extensive experience of business development strategies and initiatives in the US market (key cities, sectors and practice groups). Experience of LatAm market helpful
- Proven track record of developing and implementing data driven BD initiatives that have either resulted in new business or deepening client relationships
- Experience using management information (MI), market research, and CRM data to identify new business trends, track pipeline performance, and deliver measurable campaign ROI
- Proven ability to influence, collaborate with and advise senior partners, practice heads and wider BD to buy into and engage with BD plans and initiatives
- Familiarity of working with online RFP portals (e.g., PERSUIT, Coupa, i-Supply, Ariba) helpful
- Bachelor's degree
- Masters' Degree (MSc or MBA) desirable but not essential
