Nicole Cavanagh TEP is counsel in the dispute resolution and litigation practice at Carey Olsen in Bermuda.

Nicole’s practice covers the full spectrum of matrimonial law, including divorce, separation, and ancillary relief. She has a particular focus on the intersection of trusts and divorce, advising high-net-worth clients and business families on asset protection and global wealth distribution. Her international background allows her to navigate the commercial complexities of matrimonial assets with precision.

She has two decades of experience working in family and matrimonial law and is widely recognised for her expertise in resolving high-stakes financial disputes and complex child-related matters with a focus on cost-effective, pragmatic outcomes.

Nicole is dedicated to reducing the impact of family breakdowns on children, ensuring a clear legal strategy is established from the outset to foster sustainable long-term solutions and reduce conflict in the future.

Career

Nicole is qualified in England and Wales (2005), Hong Kong (2013), and Bermuda (2023).

She has a strong focus on alternative dispute resolution and plays an active role in the development of collaborative law in Bermuda. She regularly speaks at international conferences, where she provides insights on jurisdictional variations in trust litigation arising from divorce, matrimonial cases and business families.

Prior to joining Carey Olsen, Nicole was a senior associate at another Bermuda law firm, where she re-established the firm’s matrimonial and family practice. Her work involved managing international cases across multiple jurisdictions, including child relocation and trust-related divorce disputes.

Nicole spent 10 years working at top-tier firms in Hong Kong, where she gained extensive experience in both high-end private client litigation and fiduciary management. Nicole began her career in the UK, qualifying in 2005, which provided the foundation for her international practice.
