Carey Olsen's Bernadette Carey elected to The International Academy of Estate and Trust Law

Carey Olsen Cayman Islands partner Bernadette Carey has been elected to The International Academy of Estate and Trust Law (TIAETL) – as one of only three Cayman Islands private lawyers to be listed in the Academy Roster.

The by-invitation-only organisation is highly selective, and all chosen electives must have practiced law in the Academy's area of interest for a minimum of ten years and distinguished themselves as a market leader in their respective jurisdiction. Members are also selected on the basis of having demonstrated significant interest in the continuing development of the law of their country.

Bernadette is the head of Carey Olsen's trusts and private wealth practice in the Cayman Islands and has a broad private client practice advising on wealth structuring and estate planning matters, the administration and restructuring of trust and family offices, and the resolution of cross-border trust and estate disputes. Bernadette regularly advises high net worth individuals, trustees, beneficiaries, family offices, executors, wealth managers, institutional clients, and onshore legal teams on all aspects of trusts and estates law in the Cayman Islands.

Bernadette commented: "I am very honoured to have been elected as a member of TIAETL. The Academy's representatives span 41 countries, and its global network is at the forefront of estate and trust law developments around the world. It is a very prestigious professional organisation to be invited to join."

In addition to TIAETL, Bernadette is also an International Fellow of the American College of Trusts and Estates Counsel, a long-standing Council Member of the Cayman Islands branch of the Society of Trusts and Estates Practitioners, and a director of the Cayman Islands Family Office Association, launched in 2022.

Bernadette joins fellow Carey Olsen partners Keith Robinson and Russell Clark in the roster. Keith is the only member of the Academy from Bermuda who is in private practice and Russell is one of only two elected lawyers in Guernsey.
