Carey Olsen litigation partner Richard Brown relocates to BVI
Carey Olsen partner Richard Brown has relocated to the British Virgin Islands (BVI) from London, where he will continue to work for the firm's BVI dispute resolution and insolvency practice.
Ranked as a leading BVI lawyer by Legal 500, Chambers and Partners, GRR and Lexology Index, Richard advises on all aspects of BVI commercial disputes with a focus on insolvency, fraud and asset recovery, shareholder disputes and contentious trust matters. He specialises in cases which raise complex jurisdictional issues and regularly obtains interlocutory relief such as freezing injunctions.
Richard has been based in Carey Olsen's London office for the past six years, during which time he has worked closely with the BVI-based team and has travelled regularly to the jurisdiction for hearings. He is a solicitor advocate and has been practising in the BVI since 2013. Richard has also worked in the firm’s Jersey office and in 2023 he was admitted as a registered associate of the Bermuda Bar.
Fellow litigation partner Tim Wright will now drive the firm’s London-based BVI litigation and insolvency practice, having relocated from the BVI last summer, and the BVI and London teams will continue to work closely together.
Alex Hall Taylor KC, managing partner of Carey Olsen BVI and head of the firm's BVI dispute resolution and insolvency practice, said: "I am delighted to welcome Richard to our BVI office, now home to one of the busiest and biggest litigation teams on the island. Richard's many years of experience in BVI litigation and insolvency law, in addition to his track record of successfully representing clients before the BVI Commercial Court and the Eastern Caribbean Court of Appeal, means his presence on-island will be a true asset to the firm and jurisdiction."
Richard commented: "I am delighted to be moving back to the BVI as part of the team’s continuing growth and success in the jurisdiction as we continue to advise on many of the jurisdiction's most high-profile commercial disputes."
