Oliver MacKay

Oliver is counsel in the dispute resolution and litigation team at Carey Olsen Bermuda Limited. 

Oliver has advised on the resolution of complex and high-value disputes for 12 years and specialises in contentious (re)insurance, trusts and regulatory matters (including sanctions).

Oliver acts for corporate clients, financial institutions, (re)insurers, brokers, trustees, private individuals and families in Bermuda and internationally. He has advised on, and appeared in, significant disputes in the Supreme Court of Bermuda and the Court of Appeal for Bermuda. Oliver's practice also covers commercial and civil litigation, arbitration, and restructuring and insolvency.

Oliver has specialist expertise in treaty and facultative reinsurance, segregated accounts companies, captive insurance,  policy drafting and interpretation and insurance regulation. He also has extensive experience advising and acting for insurers and reinsurers in the Lloyd's of London and international company markets.

He has experience of commercial disputes in Bermuda, England and various international jurisdictions across Europe, the US, the Middle East and South America.

Oliver was admitted as a solicitor of England & Wales in 2013 (and solicitor-advocate in 2022) and called to the Bar of Bermuda in 2021.

Prior to joining Carey Olsen, Oliver was a senior associate in the litigation and regulatory team at the London office of DLA Piper. Oliver also worked for international law firms Kennedys and Mayer Brown, and Hiscox Insurance in London. Oliver has spent time on secondment at a Lloyd's of London reinsurer, and an international broker.

He graduated from the University of Cambridge with a degree in Law in 2009, and subsequently obtained a Professional Diploma in Legal Practice with Distinction in 2011.
