Carey Olsen advises Hollyport Capital on strategic minority investment by Blue Owl Capital

Carey Olsen's investment funds team in Jersey has advised long-standing client Hollyport Capital ("Hollyport") on a strategic minority investment by US-listed alternative asset manager Blue Owl Capital ("Blue Owl").

Funds managed by Blue Owl's GP Strategic Capital platform have acquired a passive, non-voting stake in Hollyport, which will represent approximately 25% of its economic interests.

The transaction provides Hollyport with additional balance sheet capital to support its continued growth and investment activities. Hollyport will remain independently managed, with its investment strategy, decision-making processes and day-to-day operations unchanged.

Founded in 2006, Hollyport is a specialist investor in the private equity secondaries market, focused on acquiring mature private equity assets and portfolios. The firm has approximately US$11 billion of assets under management and has raised nine flagship funds.

The Carey Olsen team advising Hollyport on Jersey legal and regulatory aspects of the deal comprised partner James Mulholland, senior associate Edward Kelleher-Ward and associate Danielle Hawkins. The team has advised the firm on a number of significant fundraisings, including the launch and final close of its US$4.5 billion Hollyport Secondary Opportunities IX, US$2.2 billion Hollyport Secondary Opportunities VIII and US$1 billion Hollyport Secondary Opportunities VII.

James Mulholland commented: "Having supported Hollyport across multiple fundraisings over many years, we have seen first-hand the firm's growth into one of the leading specialists in the private equity secondaries market. Blue Owl's investment is a strong endorsement of Hollyport's platform and long-term strategy, positioning the firm for its next phase of growth while maintaining its operational independence."
