Carey Olsen advises Spathiphy Capital on launch of US$60m long/short equity China fund

Carey Olsen's investment funds team in Hong Kong SAR has advised Spathiphy Capital Management Limited (Spathiphy) on the launch of Spathiphy Ace Fund and Spathiphy Ace Feeder Fund (together, the Fund), a master-feeder fund structure which has raised approximately US$60 million at its first close.

The Fund's investment strategy is global with a relative focus on the Greater China region. It will seek to obtain sustainable returns by using a long/short equity strategy with a research-intensive approach.

Working alongside lead counsel Sidley Austin LLP, the Carey Olsen team advising Spathiphy on all Cayman Islands legal and regulatory aspects of the launch was led by partner Michael Padarin, assisted by senior legal manager Eason Huang.

Michael said: "We are delighted to have been able to support Spathiphy Capital on the launch of its long/short equity strategy. The successful first close shows the confidence in the company as an investor in this emerging area of focus within China and internationally."

Spathiphy is managed by founder and chief investment officer Jie Zhong. Prior to founding Spathiphy, Mr Zhong worked as a portfolio manager at Infini Capital Management and Elephas Investment Management, where he managed a book with a global equity long/short strategy under each company's flagship fund.
