Five new partners for Carey Olsen in Bermuda, Jersey and London

Carey Olsen is pleased to welcome Kyle Masters, Sam Stevens and Jay Webster in Bermuda, Louise Woolrich in Jersey and Matthew Brehaut in London to the partnership, with effect from 1 July 2022.

The five promotions bring the total number of partners across the Carey Olsen group to 68.

Carey Olsen group managing partner Alex Ohlsson said: "I would like to congratulate Matthew, Kyle, Sam, Jay and Louise on joining the partnership. Each of them has demonstrated exceptional technical knowledge in their time with the firm as well as total dedication to providing a high level of client service. The fact that these promotions are spread across three of our offices speaks volumes to the strength and success of our global offering."

Kyle is a specialist in regulatory and compliance law, internal and external risk mitigation, corporate governance, enforcement actions and business strategy. He has also appeared regularly as an advocate in the Bermuda Supreme Court and Court of Appeal undertaking a wide variety of commercial and civil litigation. Kyle has also practised in the firm's Hong Kong office, where he helped to launch Carey Olsen's Bermuda law  offering to Asia clients.

Sam specialises in the resolution of civil and commercial disputes, frequently with a cross-border element. He has particular experience in international arbitration, having practised in London, Dubai and Singapore before returning to Bermuda. He appears regularly at all levels of the Bermuda courts. His dispute resolution experience covers a broad spectrum of different sectors, including banking, insurance, real estate and healthcare. Sam also leads the firm's dedicated debt recovery practice in the Bermuda office, advising secured and unsecured lenders, service providers and judgment creditors.

Jay joined Carey Olsen in 2018 from the London office of a major US firm. He has considerable experience in both the Bermuda and London markets advising companies, partnerships, LLPs and senior executives on all aspects of employment and immigration law. In particular, he has expertise in the strategic handling of senior executive conduct and performance issues, executive exits, team moves and restrictive covenants, as well as large scale global restructuring and reorganisations, collective labour disputes, business and data protection issues, sensitive grievance and disciplinary investigations, discrimination and whistleblowing complaints and employment-related litigation.

A member of the Jersey dispute resolution and litigation practice, Louise has been with Carey Olsen since 2011. She is an experienced advocate and has a broad practice in commercial litigation, with significant experience in high value contentious and semi-contentious trust matters. Louise also acts in complex corporate and fund disputes. Louise is recognised in the current edition of the Legal 500 as a "no-nonsense, effective problem solver", and has been featured as a 'rising leader' in the Private Client Global Elite Directory since 2019.

Matthew, who joined Carey Olsen's London office in 2016, is a member of the Guernsey corporate team. He has considerable experience in corporate and investment funds matters, with particular expertise in the structuring and launch of investment funds, which sees him advise managers, service providers and promoters on all aspects of the establishment, regulation and operation of fund vehicles.
