Carey Olsen promotes five lawyers to the partnership

Carey Olsen is pleased to announce that it has promoted five lawyers to the partnership, with effect from 1 July 2026. The new partners are Shane Westin (Corporate, Cayman Islands), Elliot Aron (Dispute Resolution and Litigation, Guernsey), Joanna Caen (Trusts and Private Wealth, Guernsey), Lizzie Chamberlain (Banking and Finance, Jersey) and Amelia Tan (Dispute Resolution and Litigation, Singapore). This brings the total number of partners across the Carey Olsen group to 94.

Shane advises on corporate, commercial and property law matters in the Cayman Islands, with a focus on investment funds. He has extensive experience working with emerging and established fund managers on the structuring of investment fund structures, as well as providing ongoing transactional, regulatory, and compliance advice. Shane also assists local businesses with licensing matters and trademark and patent registrations. He was admitted to practice in Nova Scotia, Canada, and the Cayman Islands in 2013, joining Carey Olsen later that same year.

Elliot is a member of the firm's dispute resolution and litigation group in Guernsey. He advises international and local clients on contentious matters, with a focus on complex, high-value commercial and trust disputes. Elliot has represented clients in both domestic and foreign courts, handling cases with challenging international and cross-border elements. After studying law at the University of Oxford and training at a Magic Circle law firm, Elliot qualified as a solicitor of England and Wales in 2010. He was subsequently called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2013 and admitted as an Advocate of the Royal Court of Guernsey in 2024.

Joanna supports families, individuals, trustees and other professionals serving high and ultra-high net worth families with asset planning, philanthropy, family company structures, dispute resolution and mental capacity issues. She was previously managing director of Praxis' Hong Kong office and a partner leading the private wealth team – China at Herbert Smith Freehills (now HSF Kramer). Joanna is qualified in New Zealand (2007), Hong Kong (2016), and England and Wales (2024). She is actively involved in STEP, having chaired its Hong Kong branch and now serving on the Guernsey branch and the Contentious Trusts and Estates Special Interest Group Steering Committee. Joanna was admitted as an Advocate of the Royal Court of Guernsey in 2025.

Based in Jersey, Lizzie acts for both lenders and borrowers on a range of debt finance transactions, including real estate finance, leveraged finance and general corporate lending. Lizzie also supports clients with deal structuring, refinancing and debt restructuring. Before joining Carey Olsen in 2022, Lizzie spent 10 years in Macfarlanes' banking and finance practice. She was admitted as an Advocate of the Royal Court of Jersey in 2024.

Amelia specialises in Cayman, BVI and Bermuda commercial litigation, with a focus on complex, multi-jurisdictional shareholder / director litigation, corporate disputes, fraud and asset tracing and cross-border insolvency and restructuring matters. She has acted for clients at all levels of the offshore courts, including the Privy Council, and regularly advises on contentious digital assets and cryptocurrency matters. Amelia is a director of the International Women's Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation (IWIRC) Singapore Network and was previously the Chairperson. She is admitted in the Cayman Islands and the British Virgin Islands and is a Registered Associate in Bermuda. She is also admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor in Singapore (non-practising) and a Solicitor of England and Wales (non-practising).
