Carey Olsen's BVI dispute resolution team is ranked Band 1 in Chambers Global
Carey Olsen’s British Virgin Islands (BVI) Dispute Resolution and Litigation practice has been promoted to Band 1 in the Chambers Global 2026 Guide, confirming its position as a leading litigation team in the jurisdiction. Amongst its strengths cited by Chambers, the guide refers to highly experienced partners supported by a deep bench of capable associates and quotes a surveyed respondent referring to the team as "first-rate, with good lawyers at every level, from partner down to associate".
The BVI Litigation and Dispute Resolution team has moved from Band 3 to Band 1 in just the five years since the team has been led by partner and BVI managing partner Alex Hall Taylor KC together with partners Richard Brown, Simon Hall and Tim Wright.
Partner Alex Hall Taylor KC continues to be recognised in Band 1 in Dispute Resolution, with Chambers recognising him to be "an outstanding advocate", "very strategic and easy to work with", "absolutely first-rate lawyer" whose "advice, strategic skill and advocacy are second to none" and who "inspires confidence and motivates the team to tackle difficult challenges".
Fellow partner Simon Hall is considered "one of the leading new partners in the BVI, with strong commercial acumen" who "combines technical expertise with strong commercial intuition" and moves up a band this year.
The "really responsive" Richard Brown, who "offers good clear advice" and has "a very good eye for the right point", has recently relocated from London to BVI, further strengthening the team's presence in the jurisdiction. The "incredibly user-friendly, responsive and sensible" Tim Wright, who is "an excellent litigator" and recognised by clients for being "great at commercial strategy", is the team's London-based BVI litigation partner.
Clients quoted by Chambers now say that "Carey Olsen is probably the law firm that is best positioned in the BVI to handle complex and sophisticated matters."
Commenting on the rankings, Alex Hall Taylor KC said “We are very proud to see our BVI dispute resolution practice achieve a Band 1 ranking in this years' Chambers Guide. This recognition reflects the exceptional talent, dedication and collective strength of our team, as well as the trust our clients place in us to handle their most complex and high‑stakes matters. In just a decade, the practice has grown into a leading force within the jurisdiction, and we remain committed to delivering the highest calibre of advice, advocacy and legal expertise.”
