Carey Olsen recognised in China Business Law Journal’s Deals of the Year 2025

Carey Olsen is pleased to announce its recognition in China Business Law Journal’s Deals of the Year 2025, with two significant transactions named among this year’s winners: Logan Group’s onshore and offshore debt restructuring, and Restaurant Brands International’s joint venture with CPE to expand Burger King® in China. These awards highlight the firm’s role in advising on some of the most complex and high‑profile China‑related matters of the past year.

Following a comprehensive review of major transactions and cases completed in 2025, China Business Law Journal selected both mandates as standout examples of legal work in an increasingly competitive market. The recognition reflects Carey Olsen’s strength in supporting clients on sophisticated cross‑border matters.

As part of the winning work, Carey Olsen advised Restaurant Brands International on the Cayman Island aspects of its joint venture with CPE, which includes a US$350 million primary investment to accelerate the expansion of the Burger King® brand in China. The partnership aims to grow the Burger King China network to more than 4,000 stores by 2035, marking a key strategic step for the business. Carey Olsen also acted as Cayman Islands counsel for an ad hoc group of offshore bondholders on Logan Group's onshore and offshore debt restructuring, in relation to their defaulted bonds. The inclusion of both a landmark restructuring and a major investment transaction underscores the ambition of clients operating in the China market and the confidence they place in Carey Olsen’s teams.

Michael Padarin, managing partner in Carey Olsen's Hong Kong office said: “Being recognised in China Business Law Journal’s Deals of the Year is a testament to the strength of our cross‑border practice and the trust our clients place in us. These landmark transactions reflect the depth of our Asia teams and our ability to guide clients through complex, high‑value mandates in one of the world’s most dynamic markets."

The full analysis of the winning deals will be available in the Deals of the Year 2025 report.
