Guernsey event kicks off Carey Olsen's autumn trusts conference series ahead of Jersey and London events

Practical lessons for trustees in relation to insolvent trusts, the application of Hastings-Bass relief in Guernsey and the consequences of failing to properly prepare for a 'momentous decision' were the focus of Carey Olsen's first autumn trust conference of the season.

Speakers at yesterday's event in Guernsey comprised Russell Clark, head of the Guernsey trusts and private wealth team, Karen Le Cras, head of the Guernsey dispute resolution and litigation practice, and Elaine Gray, a partner in the Guernsey dispute resolution and litigation team.

More than 120 professionals from Guernsey's fiduciary sector were in attendance at the event, which will be followed by similar conferences in Jersey tomorrow and in London on Tuesday 2 October.

Attendees at the Jersey autumn trust conference will hear from partners Keith Dixon and Andreas Kistler, counsel Victoria Connolly and Elaine Gray on insolvent trusts, best practice concerning the Proceeds of Crime (Jersey) Law 1999 and how the recent changes to the Jersey trusts law will impact on issues such as advancement and accumulation, disclosure and access requests, trustee security and indemnities.

Carey Olsen Bermuda's Keith Robinson will then join Channel Islands-based partners Siobhan Riley, Natasha Kapp, Andreas Kistler and Alexa Saunders for the London conference, where he will provide a round-up on the trust cases of interest so far in 2018 from courts of Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands and Cayman Islands.
